Cape to Cape, A Millennium Meander

My thanks to all who contributed to raising such a magnificent amount, my original, wildly optimistic target was 1,000. Also thanks to all those people up and down the country who helped me during the trip, with special thanks to:

• Russ Mathieson who accompanied me during the first few days in the wilds of Sutherland
• My wife, Nicky, for keeping me supplied in the North of Britain and supporting the whole concept of the trip
• Roy and Sheila Smith for resupplying me in Cheshire and raising several hundred pounds in the Chester area
• My sister, Diana, for the Bristol resupply and surviving the June heatwave
• Mike Tobin for his valiant efforts to keep up with me, also Harry & Joan Foxley during the last few days in Cornwall.

The Vital Statistics:

• 1050 miles with 107,700 feet of ascent (thats 3 times up Everest or 24 times up Ben Nevis) over 75 days (68 days walking and 7 rest days).
•  I walked an average of 16 miles and climbed 1,600 feet a day.
• The longest walked in a day was 25.5 miles along the Cheshire canals where there are no hills to slow progress.
• The day climbing out of Fort Augustus and over the Corrieyairack Pass into the Spey valley was the highest with a total of 3460 feet, carrying a full pack with 5 days supplies.
