Edale to Hay on Wye

Section 5 route map

150 miles in 9 days

Leaving the acorns of the Pennine Way it was across the White Peak to Buxton and down the Dane Valley to Congleton and the Cheshire Plains for several days level walking along the Shropshire Union and Montgomery canals to rejoin the acorns on Offas Dyke at Welshpool. Unlike the drove roads used further north Offas Dyke follows the best defensive route straight up and down steep sided valleys making for unexpectedly hard days negotiating the valleys that flow into the Seven around Knighton before taking an afternoon off to browse the many book shops in Hay on Wye and shelter from a passing low pressure weather system.
